Hearts and Minds on the Page: Engaging and Purposeful Writing Instruction
Writing instruction should be engaging and purposeful, and also teach students the skills and strategies they need in order to clearly and coherently put their hearts and minds onto the page.
In this 1-hour PD webinar, well-known writing expert Leah Mermelstein will introduce an instructional model that teachers can use when planning and implementing their writing instruction. Participants will learn about the three instructional strands, the three types of corresponding instructional sessions, and the three levels of practice within this model. Participants will also learn about the ways in which this model is informed by Pearson and Gallagher’s gradual release of responsibility model and the science of reading research. Finally, participants will be introduced to different ways to organize their weekly writing instruction and learn the different steps they can use to more effectively plan, implement and reflect upon their writing lessons.
